Research Interest

As someone who is particularly curious and fascinated by everything that seems new and different, during my academic career, my interests have spanned towards several research areas. Starting from the study of the evolution of intercropping and crop rotation - during my bachelor studies- ending up investigating the functional traits variation of cocoa plants between agroforestry and monoculture systems, during my Master degree.

In both cases, the common objective was to identify sustainable, applicable and ecologically favourable approaches, by looking at the past for designing the future.

Since September 2021, I am a PhD student within the Horizon 2020 European project CROPDIVA (Climate Resilience Orphan croPs for increased DIVersity in Agriculture), conducting research on hull-less barley (Hordeum vulgare spp. nudum L.) as a promising underutilised crop for use as an alternative cereal for food production.
In particular, my research foci will move through three main aspects: 1) selection and identifying the best performing hull-less barley lines, 2) investigating the effect of mixed cropping systems together with lentils (Lens culinaris Medik.) on resilience towards noxious organisms, N efficacy, yield and quality as well as 3) examining the potential enhancement of ecosystem services using various underutilised crop species.
The supervisors who are following me in this project are Dr. Susanne Vogelgsang, head of the Research group Extension Arable Crops at Agroscope, and Prof. Dr. Johan Six at ETHZ.
